A Day in Waco, Texas
For those of you who have been around since Melrose House began, you might have heard me talk about how I’ve admired Joanna Gaines and what she has created through her home and lifestyle brand, Magnolia. While Melrose House is different and uniquely its own, I just love the thoughtful content they create, from intentionally written magazine articles, delicious recipes, or beautiful home decor and designs. Whenever I am dreaming up new things to create for Melrose House, I often find myself looking through Magnolia Journal magazines for ideas and creative inspiration. So when the opportunity arose for me to visit the Silos at Magnolia in Waco, Texas, in person, I was thrilled.
Not too long ago my brothers relocated to the greater Dallas area in Texas and I knew we could potentially take a trip to Waco once we got a time to visit them on the calendar. We spent a whole day there exploring and checking things off of my bucket list.
Of course, we had to start our day with a huge brunch from The Magnolia Table.
I had high expectations, but my goodness the food was SO GOOD. I ordered the breakfast sandwich because it was on a croissant (I will never pass up a sandwich on a croissant) with bacon, egg, and arugula on it. I can’t think of a better combination for a croissant breakfast sammie. Just perfect.
My husband got the eggs benedict and he said they were the best he’s ever had. We also shared the lavender lemon doughnut holes and lemon blueberry pancake from their Spring specials menu. That pancake was divine.
The Magnolia Table space was so beautiful! The exterior was especially beautiful and the market had a bunch of adorable kitchen pieces, all of Joanna’s cookbooks, and a counter to order food and drinks to-go.
After that we made our way to the Silos! We first checked out the Magnolia Home store. There were so many beautiful vignettes and pretty home pieces. I was bummed none of it would fit in my suitcase. ;)
Then we made our way to the Magnolia Market, which was so huge and had kitchen items, home decor, and flowers and greenery. It was a bit overwhelming of how many pretty things there were to look at!
In the middle of the grounds is the wide open wiffle ball field! We played there for a bit while sipping on ice cold lemonade. Then we stepped into the renovated church to cool down as we took in its beauty.
By then it was time for an afternoon pick-me-up from the coffee shop, Magnolia Press! My iced vanilla latte was so yummy, and the space was so relaxing, that afterwards I was ready to shop! Right near one of the main entrances are six little stores that Joanna has curated, and I was especially excited about these. There’s a men’s store, a stationery shop, a leather goods and jewelry store, and my personal favorite, Ferny’s, The Retro Plant Shop! I got the cutest handmade mug with a little cactus on it.
That wrapped up our time at the Silos, and since it was so close by, we had to take a look around the Gaines’ newest project, Hotel 1928!
This building was opened in 1928 as a gathering place in Waco, but for the past twenty plus years it laid vacant until Chip and Jo transformed it into the most stunning hotel with two restaurants, a cafe, and 33 rooms. It felt like I was stepping back in time to New York during the 1920s. This spot had my favorite design elements, especially in the cafe and the gorgeous two-story library. I’m definitely dreaming of the day that I can stay a couple nights here!
I’m so glad we got spend the whole week in Texas. We had lots of sweet time with family, and this day trip was a highlight for sure! I’m grateful I was able to explore this inspiring place and I can’t wait to go back.
